Problems With Wisdom Teeth
Beverly Hills and Los Angeles, CA
Wisdom teeth are the third molars that are the last teeth to surface. They are located in the very back of the mouth and are usually removed before they begin to come in. The wisdom teeth are not needed and are removed to avoid any future problems that may cause pain, irritation, and infection.
Some of the problems with wisdom teeth include:
- They may become impacted because they are not be able to break through the gum line
- They may only break halfway through your gums causing the gums to form a flap where infection may set in
- They may come in sideways, facing the wrong direction, or crooked
- Your jaw may not have enough room for your wisdom teeth and your other teeth get pushed forward and begin to crowd
- The wisdom teeth may be too far back in your jaw for you to properly clean them after they come in
Symptoms of Wisdom Teeth Problems
You may not notice any symptoms when it is time to have your wisdom teeth removed. It is important to remove the wisdom teeth before any problems occur that may cause you pain. You will want to visit Los Angeles cosmetic dentist, Dr. Kevin Sands for regular dental visits and check-ups to make sure you do not need your wisdom teeth removed.
It is best to remove wisdom teeth at a young age. Most people have their teeth removed between the ages of 17 and 25. Dr. Sands will tell you when your wisdom teeth should be removed depending on how your wisdom teeth are moving and how it is affecting your bite. He will not suggest that you have them removed before it is time and he will not want to wait until your wisdom teeth cause problems.
Symptoms that you will notice when it is time to have your wisdom teeth removed are:
- Crowding or shifting of your teeth
- Pain or stiffness in your jaw near the tooth
- Pain or irritation in your jaw, tongue, or cheek if a tooth is coming in at an incorrect angle
- Pain due to an infection growing and causing swelling near the tooth
- Tooth decay of your teeth due to the wisdom teeth rubbing against them
- Gum disease near the wisdom teeth
